In Quito

This is more of just a quick update to let you all know that I’m alive and kicking in Quito. It turns out that I got really lucky with my host family because they are wonderful people. My Spanish is coming along quickly, which is helped by the classes we are taking while here in Quito.

A lot has happened so far, but it doesn’t really seem like it…well, mostly this weekend seemed to last for weeks, which is actually rather nice. I’ve done a lot so far. I saw a penitence parade on Friday, hiked up a mountain on Saturday and went to a real-life soccer game today, crazed fans and everything. I took a ton of pictures when we went up to the mountain (Pichincha, I believe), but I don’t think I’m going to have a chance to upload them for a while for lack of access to a sufficiently fast computer and internet connection. I am keeping a journal so that I can fill you all in on the details of my adventures at a later date. I’ve actually got a few emails that I’ve written that include most of the details, but I’ll get around to the ol’ copy-and-paste when I’ve got more to relate.

So, in summary, things are going well, my Spanish is coming along, and I am generally enjoying myself! There are definitely a few things that I really miss already (and a few people), but I still have a lot ahead of me to look forward to! Like I said, I’ll keep this updated once in a while, but for now I am going to concentrate on enjoying myself in Ecuador and staying away from large crowds of crazed soccer fans.

A luego!

  1. Soccer? Soccer?? I think you mean crazed fĂștbol fans, and that is a very good choice on your part. =)

I’m glad to hear things are going well! I know it’s tough to keep things updated while you’re busy, busy, busy with great new experiences, but let us know how it’s going. Buena suerte!

  2. <3! glad you are having fun!
